The New Synagogue, a monumental structure designed with Gothic ebullience, radiated warmth and love . It was still considered new in the 15th Century and the only reason it survived the holocaust of World War Two in the Twentieth Century was because Hitler wanted to keep it as a museum to showcase the work, life and history of an extinct race he desperately tried to exterminate. Meanwhile, the current scene playing out before Golam was an expertly designed simulacrum of what we would now call the ghetto, one that existed hundreds of years in the past.
